Official Business

0

This week Tim met with the bank to get a business account set-up for Hen House Properties.  For those of you who don’t know, Hen House Properties is our company name for us buying, fixing up, and selling houses.  You’re thinking to yourself….what a clever name!  Thanks!!  I’m taking credit for that.  If you’re wondering where that name came from, here’s a hint:  Hen…..Heneveld.  There you go!

It’s amazing how something so little like a checking account can have such an affect on you.  It’s like when you were in high school and you got your first checking account and those first checks came with your name printed on them.  They made you feel like an adult!  This checking account makes me feel like we’re an official business.

Our next step is to get a real estate sign made up with our logo to place in front of the house we are working on.  Tim doesn’t know it yet, but I’m totally getting us t-shirts or sweatshirts made up with the logo on it.  Wouldn’t that be cool!  He’ll think I’m a dork, but hey, for better or for worse right?

Hair today, gone tomorrow

0

When you get pregnant you have all of these hormones increasing in your body and some of these hormones affect your hair growth — your hair may grow faster, go straight or go wavy, and gets thicker.  All of these changes were great!  But, now that I am no longer pregnant, my hair as been falling out by the handfuls!  Not that I wouldn’t mind having thinner hair (my hair has always been thick).  Seriously though, I’m worried about baldness at this point!  Every time I wash my hair, brush my hair, pull it back into a ponytail, I loose handfuls and handfuls of hair!  It is disgusting

On the Abbi front, she is changing every day!  She has now discovered her fingers.  She likes to grab the fingers on one had with the other hand and likes to suck on her fingers, or whole fist.  She also likes to find the one or two hairs that didn’t make it back into my pony tail and hold on tight.  OUCH!  We are also figuring out, slowly, this napping/sleeping thing.  As strange as it sounds, the more that she sleeps during the day, the more she sleeps at night.  I thought at first that she may be getting too much sleep but everything I’ve read says that babies need that much sleep.  And who am I to argue about my child sleeping more?  She also thinks she’s hot stuff when she sits up with little assistance  or stands up while holding on to my fingers.  I keep telling her to slow down, mom’s not ready for her to grow up!

She’s my baby & I’ll laugh if I want to

0

I believe, that as her mother, I have the honor…no, the privilege….no, the right to dress my daughter up in funny clothes and take pictures of her looking absolutely pathetic!  Doesn’t she though?  You just want to squeeze those chubby cheeks!  They are very kissable cheeks but you have to be quick with your kisses because she likes to kiss back.  Yup, she likes to attack you with her mouth wide open and drool oozing everywhere!  Very fun!

One thing I’ve discovered about motherhood that I do not like is not knowing what is “wrong” with my baby girl.  She has been extra fussy lately and fighting sleep.  I’m not sure if she’s fighting a cold, teething, or just having a hard time passing gas.  This kid is the gassiest child I’ve ever seen.  When she starts ripping them, she could make a truck driver blush!  Serious gas power!  Anyhow, I just wish I knew what was causing all this crankiness so we could fix it and move on!

Today we spent some quality time together, just the three of us.  We went to the Home Show in  Grand Rapids.  Lots of remodeling and home improvement ideas.  But the best part was this cd that I bought for Abbi.  It is a Veggie Tales cd that is personalized for Abbi.  The Veggie Tale characters incorporate Abbi’s name into their songs.  It is the cutest thing ever!  Right now it is more enjoyable for me but one day Abbi will love it too.

A blast from the past

0

I really hope my older sister reads this entry because I know that she will get a kick out of it!

First let me give you a little history:  When I was younger my older sister would baby-sit us when my parents were at work.  One day she decided to make Spaghetti Os for lunch.  I explained to her that I did not like Spaghetti Os.  She said “Yes you do, now eat them!”  I continued to explain that if I were forced to eat them that I might throw-up.  She simply replied that if I did not eat them that I would not be allowed to leave the table. Not wanting to sit at the table all day, I reluctantly began to eat my lunch.  Five bites later, I threw-up all over the kitchen table!  Now, I’m not saying that the Spaghetti Os made me sick.  I would dare say that I forced myself to throw-up.  Yup, I was a stubborn child!

Fast forward now to today.  I decided that I might like to try some Spaghetti Os for lunch.  I had bought a few cans because Tim likes them.  So, I dished them into the pan, heated them up, and began eating them.  Five bites later I decided that I still did not like Spaghetti Os.  I tossed the rest in the trash and made a sandwich.

Stages

0

Abbi is now 2 1/2 months old.  I’m starting to count her age in months now because it is a lot easier for me to remember than weeks.  It’s hard for me not to compare her to other babies to see what magnificent feats they are conquering or had conquered at her age.  I’m not comparing to say “my kid’s a genius,” but to find out what she should be doing at this age.  First kid…not sure if she should be crawling, walking, eating solid foods, composing a symphony.  I know each baby goes at their own pace but I want to make sure I’m helping her achieve those little milestones when I can.  I have a month-by-month book that basically says they may or may not be doing X by this age.  I want something that says, “your baby should be doing X by this age and if she’s not, you better get a move on.”  Oh, if it were only that easy!
